Dining room success!!

Since my kitchen is super small (no where to store the larger of my small appliances, ie- electric griddle, electric skillet, etc.) I have been hunting for a cabinet/sideboard/hutch thingy that was large enough to store these items. But of course keeping with my mission it couldn't cost a ton of money.

During my most recent trip thrifting I finally found the illusive beast that would occupy my dining room. It was a bit more than I would normally pay for an item that I wan't to redo but it was too perfect to walk away from just because of price, not to mention it was in fantastic condition.

I paid $200 +a $20 delivery fee for this:

The only problem is I don't need the top (its going under a window). So here is the end result:

I wanted to make this a quick and painless project so I opted for dry brushing (my go to, since-if done correctly does not require perfection. I was also debating on the color...my kitchen cabinets are black and the walls in the kitchen are barn red so the room is already dark. I ended up doing barn red for the base and dry brush with black. I reused the hinges (just spray painted them) because I couldn't find the same type of hinges and a cute whimsical black drawer pull for the drawers and doors. I think it turned out pretty spiffy! The curtains were down to the floor, so I cut them and put in a hem with Stitch Witch (no sewing- thank goodness). The bottoms that I cut off will be used to make a valance for the window over the sink.

  1. I saw this piece on Better After and just had to come over and tell you how much I like it. The color is awesome. I hope you saved the top piece, I can see it being a beautiful wall-hung cabinet in another room, or perhaps made into a bench. That was a great price, especially if you end up with two wonderful pieces!!

    1. Thanks so much for your comment! I do LOVE how the cabinet turned out.

I couldn't bear to part with the top, felt weird to get rid of a perfectly good piece of furniture. I am actually working on another piece right now that I was able to use the top/hutch on.

I hope you follow my blog, then you can see the new post when I finish it! :)

I am working on getting my blog in order and looking snazzy- this is all so new to me.

      Thanks again!
